Everyone has heard about going for a goal, or goal setting. I would like to rephrase this idea on goals to: what is going to fulfill your life?
Recently I have been pondering this question. I am a person who loves to help others, but tends to do this at risk to my own peace. I put myself, and my family, in harm's way to help others. When all I really want is to feel butterflies in my stomach when I see people such as my husband, son, family, colleagues and clients.
A year ago I had one of those moments that put butterflies in my stomach, with my friend Suzanne Ryan. Suzanne wanted to do a vision board party, but had many things pop up with her schedule. I really wanted to see her vision come to life, so we set up a
one on one coffee date. I asked Suzanne how the planning for the vision board party was going, but she still had been unable to start.
I had other plans for Suzanne. We hashed out all the details at the one meeting and Suzanne stepped to the plate. She just needed the push. The event was successful and fruitful. Suzanne was a star, and that brought joy to both of us.
After I did this with Suzanne, I reflected on other changes I have made in people's lives big and small. Some are so personal I cannot share, but the lives of people can be changed with one conversation at a time.
When we find the butterflies fluttering in everyday life, people will notice. What excites me, is seeing people that I have so much to tell, or can’t wait to hear what is happening in their life. I don’t want any of those butterflies to leave.
Things that distract my butterflies are bills, phones, and working endlessly to make ends meet. If it is not bringing butterflies into your stomach, it is probably not worth it. Always take the time to assess how you are feeling and if you are not feeling butterflies then keep looking for them! They are there, somewhere!
